Your Entire Team, In One Place

Stenger Family Office is a full service financial advisor, wealth management, and investment management firm in Naperville, IL. We offer investors a family office experience where an entire team of specialists and experts are coordinated on the same page. For years, we’ve seen clients receive disconnected, uncoordinated advice from outside advisors who are not operating as a comprehensive team.

As our clients’ average net worth has grown significantly the past 42 years, complexity and the need for detailed planning has also grown. That’s why your dedicated financial advisor in Naperville, IL will work in concert with our Stenger Tax Advisory team of Certified Public Accountants and attorneys through third party law firm, Legacy & Life Law.

Stenger Family Office offers clients of all net worth sizes an opportunity to get started on a comprehensive financial plan with a minimum investment of just $1,000. For investors with over $2 million of investable assets, we include a significant annual engagement bonus for tax preparation and estate planning services.

Our family advising your family.

We designed Stenger Family Office to serve our own family, building a fiduciary process around our investment portfolios and financial plans. Then we hired CPAs and estate planning attorneys who could advise on our entire financial picture, not just investments. By building the new firm this way, we’ve created a family first environment that serves our clients as people, not just a number on a spreadsheet like many large Wall Street firms. Our financial advisors are legally obligated to operate in the best interest of clients, just as we would expect with our own family.

Stenger Family History of Innovation

Passing the baton for 8 generations.

The Stenger Group was founded in 1981 and became one of the largest wealth managers in the U.S., and nationally recognized by Forbes, Barron’s, Financial Times and Chicago Magazine.

Over the past 43 years of managing money for 1,200 client families at one of Wall Street’s largest firms, our team has identified 5 core challenges families have when passing down wealth that we felt could not be met without creating a unique family office experience for clients.

Hiring a financial advisor is one of the biggest decisions you will make as a family. If successful, your financial advisor will become integral to you and your family’s financial future. When you hire the right financial advisor, you’ll avoid mistakes that can derail your finances. As I think about the hundreds of families our team works with, I’m in awe of the 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th generations we are honored to walk alongside year after year.

Launched in 2023, the Stenger Family Office has built a competitive platform that can serve your family at all stages of the wealth journey. Today, the family office manages wealth for the Stenger family and hundreds of two, three, and even fourth generation families across 50 states. We can help you and your family pass down your values, like we've done over eight generations with our family.

Sincerely,
Nicholas Stenger

Financial Advisor in Naperville, IL

Your Entire Team, Under One Roof

How to find a financial advisor

Deciding to work with a financial advisor is one the most important decisions you and your family will ever make. If selected properly, your financial advisor will walk through time, alongside you and your family, giving you financial advice, updating your financial plan and guiding you through the most important transitions and challenges you will face.

Hiring the wrong financial advisor can be detrimental to your financial future. If you hire an advisor who charges commissions and is only trying to sell products, you will find your interests may not be aligned with the financial advisor’s interests. Rather, we believe you should hire a financial advisor who is paid on an advisory or consultative basis. At Stenger Family Office, our fees are charged on the assets we manage for you and your family. As your account increases in size, we do better as you do better.

Hiring the right financial advisor can make a tremendously positive impact on your financial future. Good financial advice can make a difference between running out of money in retirement versus having plenty to last the rest of your life. A financial advisor can create a financial plan that addresses all aspects of your financial life, including investments, insurance, taxes and estate planning.

Financial advisors at the Stenger Family Office believe strongly in financial planning. Creating a plan starts by examining your short, medium and long term strategies and addressing these goals by investing your assets in a diversified portfolio of stocks, bonds and exchange traded funds (ETF’s).

If you plan on hiring a financial advisor, we recommend asking the prospective financial advisor if they are a fiduciary and operate in your best interest. You should also ask the prospective financial advisor how much they get paid and how they get paid. We recommend requesting a copy of the financial advisor’s BrokerCheck profile or SEC filed ADV form that will give you insight on the financial advisor’s background and potential past client issues.

Hiring a financial advisor can be a daunting and challenging decision. As you make the decision, we strongly encourage you to interview a variety of financial advisors from a variety of firms, similar to receiving multiple doctor opinions before having surgery.

Contact Nick Stenger and the Stenger Family Office today to learn more.

Finding a financial planner in Naperville, IL is hard work. You may interview a variety of financial advisors and find out not all financial advisors are created equal. Here are some common types of financial advisors and how they work:

Commission or sales based:

Many financial advisors still charge commissions when placing trades or rebalancing client portfolios. When working with a financial advisor, be sure to ask how that advisor is paid and how much in fess you are charged per year. It may not always be clear on your monthly account statement and you may be paying more than you realize. Financial advisors at Stenger Family Office do not charge commissions or sales fees on your investments, rather we are paid an advisory fee based on the amount of assets we manage on your behalf.

Financial planners:

In recent years, many financial planning firms have been launched and don’t charge advisory fees. They operate similar to law firms in that they will charge a fee for a financial plan or ongoing hourly rate. While this is a less popular option, financial planning for a fee may be a good way for young investors to receive unbiased advice before accumulating larger sums of money. Stenger Family Office offers comprehensive financial planning included in our full service Stenger Wealth Management, Stenger Family Office, and Stenger GoldDesk service offerings. If you choose a more limited relationship with our firm through Stenger Investment Management, you can add on financial planning services for an additional fee. In each case, a Stenger financial advisor can point you towards the best solution for your personal situation.

Insurance based:

Some insurance agents and insurance firms have started offering financial advice by selling whole life or other insurance products including annuities as a way to save for retirement. While in some cases this may be a reasonable strategy, we typically recommend buying insurance as a risk management tool rather than an investment tool. These insurance contracts often pay high commissions and can present a conflict of interest for clients.

Stenger Family Office:

Stenger Family Office offers clients an unbiased, fiduciary based approach to wealth management where our interests are aligned with yours. Through our comprehensive financial planning and wealth management process, a Stenger financial advisor can create a tailored and customized investment portfolio that matches your goals. We do not sell or earn commissions on financial products, but rather use an open architecture platform of stocks, bonds and exchange traded funds (ETFs) that match your risk tolerance.

Your Retirement Journey

Stenger Family Office can help you and your family navigate your retirement journey. As fiduciaries, our financial advisors will help create a retirement plan that aligns your goals with the amount of risk in your portfolio. Here are some of the ways a Stenger financial advisor can help you and your family:

  1. Retirement Planning

Our financial advisors can help you answer the most important financial planning question “Do I have enough money for retirement?” During the financial planning process your financial advisor will analyze your income and expenses, assets and liabilities and retirement goals. Using our high tech financial planning software, we’ll show you the probability of success of not running out of money at various retirement ages.

  2. Portfolio Management

While you’re working, we typically recommend allocating the majority of your investment portfolio towards equities. When retired however, your financial advisor will likely rebalance your portfolio slightly away from equities towards bonds. In general, we recommend retirees hold 2-3 years of living expenses in short term fixed income so distributions can be made even when markets are down or volatile. Your Stenger financial advisor will also likely shift towards dividend paying, Blue-Chip, U.S. equities as you approach retirement.

  3. Tax Planning & Preparation

As a Stenger Family Office client, you will have access to Stenger Tax Advisory, a licensed provider of tax planning and preparation services. Your Stenger financial advisor will work closely with one of our in-house CPA’s to create a tax efficient investment portfolio and withdrawal strategy for you during retirement.

  4. Estate Planning

Your Stenger financial advisor will also help you determine the best estate planning strategy alongside your personal estate planning attorney. Stenger Family Office has partnered with Legacy & Life Law firm to provide clients with trusts, wills, powers of attorney and other important legal services.

Stenger financial advisors are experienced in offering families a comprehensive wealth management experience and can help you and your family achieve a rewarding and fulfilling retirement.

Stenger Family Office is based out of Naperville, IL but can serve you and your family across the entire United States. Our financial advisors frequently travel to meet with clients on a regular basis and can move with you if you move.

Our on-going process is based on extensive and proactive service plan to make sure you are always informed and up to date on the financial markets and your personal financial plan. Your Stenger financial advisor will reach out to set up an annual review meeting to review your financial plan, taxes, estate plan and insurance needs. Depending on your service level, your Stenger financial advisor will also reach out to schedule a variety of check-in calls throughout the year as well.

During the year, you are encouraged to reach out to your financial advisor as frequently as you’d like if questions or concerns should arise. As a Stenger Wealth Management, Stenger Family Office, or Stenger GoldDesk client, you also have access to dedicated client support, not an 800 number like many of our competitors. Because the financial advice relationship is so important, we believe you should experience consistency in your ongoing relationship with your financial advisor.
